This week we are in midst of our 14 days of prayer and fasting, and I felt like it was appropriate to talk a little about it. Prayer and Fasting has always been a part of the bible, people like Moses, Elijah, Esther, Nehemiah, Daniel and Paul fasted during crucial timings of their lives.
So how do we actually fast?
Choosing something to fast;
Fasting does not necessarily mean that we need to only fast on food
You could fast social media, or etc.
Or anything that you have been doing excessively and it has become unhealthy
Fasting could also mean instead of removing something, you could choose to add or change something about yourself.
Things that you need to ensure before you choose to fast;
What are your spiritual motivations to fast?
What are your goals for this fast?
Are your intentions genuine? (Only you would know)
“When you fast, don’t let it be obvious, but instead, wash your face and groom yourself and realize that your Father in the secret place is the one who is watching all that you do in secret and will continue to reward you openly.” “When you fast, don’t look like those who pretend to be spiritual. They want everyone to know they’re fasting, so they appear in public looking miserable, gloomy, and disheveled. Believe me, they’ve already received their reward in full.” Matthew 6:16-18 TPT
How to keep yourself accountable for fasting?
For us we fast together, get someone to fast with you or to help you out. Then you can both be accountable for each other.
Set daily reminders on your phone
Ultimately you need to hold yourself accountable for your own journey with God, it is your effort that counts.
Many people fast for many different reasons, what is yours?
